Dear Medis men,

join us for a

prostate cancer

blood test!

Did you know that prostate cancer is the most common carcinoma in men, more common than melanoma or colon cancer? 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.

The risk of developing the disease increases with age, and it occurs most often in men over 50 years of age. An important risk factor is also family history.

A significant reason to get regular testing is that prostate cancer usually develops slowly. In the early stages of the disease, which can last for several years, the disease causes no symptoms. However, by the time symptoms appear, the disease has usually progressed.

Often, the first indicator of the disease is an elevated PSA (prostate-specific antigen) level in the blood.

Take care of your health

Early detection is vital for better treatment results,

especially because it is a very treatable form of cancer.

While it may not be a topic you want to talk or think about,

it is an important part of your health.

Additional Tests

Men at Greater Risk

PSA is a protein produced by both cancerous and noncancerous tissue in the prostate. The PSA test is a blood test performed in the laboratory. It can detect high levels of PSA that may indicate the presence of prostate cancer.

Important! PSA test alone cannot 100% determine prostate cancer and elevated levels of PSA do not necessarily mean carcinogenic changes. It is recommended you undergo both the PSA test and physical exam. If there are abnormalities, additional tests can be conducted. Please consult your doctor about the PSA results and for further information about additional tests.

While general guidelines recommend starting after 50, you may need PSA screening after the age of 40 if you:

  • Have at least one first-degree relative (father, brother) who has had prostate cancer.

  • Have at least two extended family members who have had prostate cancer.

Taking part in Blue Medis PSA testing is a personal choice and it is entirely voluntary.

What are the benefits of joining Blue Medis?

If you register through Blue Medis, we will cover 100% of costs for PSA blood testing (prostate-specific antigen).
